If you make the hardware not serviceable, only option is to
buy a new unit (upgrade)... then, Apple's fans will be
Apple's fans and buy replacements that are Apple products?
What does Apple pay as a dividend, that is the key question
going out to the long term.
Remember, that Apple does stuff like glue batteries into
laptops, so they can't be serviced. The battery will have a
much shorter life-span than the laptop, meaning that the
customer will HAVE NO CHOICE but to buy a NEW ONE sooner.
Ka-ching, Ka-ching, Ka-ching $$$$$... now, about that
dividend, and oh-yea, about the toxic waste that more
frequent "upgrades" forced on users due to "battery tactics"
causes.
Food for thought.

we live in a growth-oriented economy, when we should be looking at
sustainability instead. Why? Because when markets saturate, growth decreases,
and manufacturers must use tools like planned obsolescence, designed-to-fail,
patent suits, false advertising, and anti-competitive behavior. Technical
innovation, you say? Yes, but that's too difficult, too costly, and impossible
without actual innovators to do the work. The 'make money with money' approach
does work, but it can come back and bite ya. We're holding the snakes tail, and
we don't want to let go.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
