Guys, this doesn't help at all, in my view.
If it turns out Ortiz did it herself, it
would make more sense. Not that she did.
But it's hurtful, in my view.
Aaron wasn't about breaking the law. He
had lawyers advising him in advance, which
tells me he was trying to do things by
finding loopholes that allowed him, he
thought, to do what he did. He found out
his understanding didn't match others', and
so he stopped. It was a mistake. So he
apologized.
But his intent wasn't to cross a line, just
to make use of what he thought he could do.
That's a big, big difference.
When you break the law, it makes it less likely
that the Congress will now change the CFAA
in any way, except to make it worse maybe. And
a Congressman announced at a conference that
they were going to review it, after the Swartz
incident. But what will they think now?

This is a bad way to honor the memory of Swartz and what he fought for.
Please rethink, you are hurting all of us. Stop the attacks please.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
