Anyway, she never liked this machine and wants to buy a new one.
}

My friend bought her current computer because it is red. ;-)

Running XP - is it SATA?
Authored by: Wol on Tuesday, January 22 2013 @ 11:56 AM EST
My new PC won't boot off a SATA DVD drive (it will if I force it to legacy IDE
mode).

Or is the problem that it will boot from CD, but LiveCDs fail to boot properly?
My older PC has that problem. (Except it has a SATA DVD now, so it just won't
boot from CD full stop :-)

Anyways, if a LiveCD starts to boot and then fails, try using a Slack boot
disk.

Cheers,
Wol

Inform her that Skype still works on Linux.

MS haven't killed that yet as far as I know.

Adventures with Windows 7!! Yay!!
Authored by: cjk fossman on Wednesday, January 23 2013 @ 09:36 PM EST
Recently had an experience with Windows 7. It is like going
to jail.

Microsoft tries in every way to lock you in to their
ecosystem.

One thing I learned, though. IE is a huge bundle of visual
information overload.

Bleah.
