It's a sad fact, but change only happens if you are willing to fight for it.

If you do not buy a lottery ticket - then it's 100% certainty you will not win the lottery

The same holds true when dealing with politicians and others in Society around you:

    If you never speak up
The Politician will never be given an opportunity to listen to you
So one could view it as you do:
Unless speaking to politicians leads to change, it's a waste of effort!
But:
Just because the future might rollout to showing your efforts are a waste doesn't mean you shouldn't speak!
Sure... if you don't speak, then you haven't "wasted" effort - but it'll never lead to change you believe in either unless sufficient others speak up with the same view you share without your voice. And if you truly don't want to speak up, then my humble suggestion is to let those of us who want to speak to do so without the dissuading comments.

Personally, I'd rather speak up on the matters I deem sufficiently important then continue to let something so unfortunate continue to deliberately happen.

That's never a waste even if people aren't listening.

Because sooner or later others do start to pay attention. Prior to a year ago, I heard of no Law that criminalizes verbal abuse. I've been speaking out against verbal abuse for a long time. And with the very unfortunate suicide of a 16 year old girl who could tolerate no more verbal abuse others are finally starting to wake up to why verbal abuse is just as wrong as physical abuse. And Laws are appearing so the verbal abuse victims now have somewhere to turn to stop the harm.

As I said. You believe strongly enough in correcting a wrong that you can see, even if no one listens: it's not a waste! Because sooner or later someone will listen. And sooner or later, someone who has listened will add their voice to yours. And sooner or later sufficient voices will be raised that something will be done.

Slaves have never - in the entire history of human suffering - ever freed themselves by not saying/doing something.
