I suspect JSTOR is designated as a Federal government database, and
any breach of security of a Federal government
asset may possibly fall under the
Secret Service's remit.
JSTOR should be a federal database
because 99.9% of its content was created with government funds. I'm not saying
all copyrighted material should be free to use but certainly taxpayers should
not need to pay again for the results of research their taxes funded.
The
privatization of federally funded research results is insane. A private company
is making money by providing society the great disservice of charging us to see
to results of research we funded. The tollbooth they created greatly hinders
future research.
Aaron was fighting against this insanity and that is why he
was persecuted by the government. The real criminals are the ones who are
keeping the results of federally funded research out of the hands of the people
who paid for it.
