Given the mess the US is making of it
Authored by: Wol on Thursday, January 17 2013 @ 05:14 PM EST
Why are you (a non-American) supporting their continued right to run it?

That's not to say the ITU would make a better job of it, but I don't have a
knee-jerk pro-American stance. Oh, and how much of the Internet was actually
invented in America? The WWW was invented in Switzerland by a Brit. One of the
first non-American networks was JANET, which probably pre-dates the Internet
(and a lot of computing was invented here - the historians like arguing over
whether it was the Americans or Brits). A lot of BSD Unix was actually written
in London or Australia ...

I'm afraid a lot of this just strikes me as American nationalism (which is only
to be expected on an American site like Groklaw), but don't expect me to join in
...

Cheers,
Wol

Defund the ITU
Authored by: hairbear on Friday, January 18 2013 @ 08:23 AM EST
The way I look at it is ... if the US (or any other country) disagrees with the
ITU, then they need to argue their point to the best of their ability.
De-funding is just throwing toys out of the pram and just makes the people
involved look childish.
