The aerospike looks nothing like the Merlin. It is also about half the size. It
also looks to be about half the weight (it only needs half the nozzle size). It
does have some issues about cooling what amounts to the nozzle though.
The F1 looks almost the same as the Merlin. In size and in general geometry
(including the pumps).
The aerospike looked like it had the pumps in the center, and the combustion
chambers on either side of the pumps. The Merlin (like the F1) looks to have the
pumps above the combustion chamber.
The most striking thing about the aerospike was that instead of one combustion
chamber, it has many smaller ones, and each could be individually controlled and
easily serviced.
