No excuses for Apple, but my long experience with them in a market
outside EU or US agrees with PJ's. The upselling of extended warranty
is an industry wide problem. Apple seems to be the one in the spotlight here.
I'd like to see a lot more of the usual suspects in the dock alongside them.

Sorry PJ, but it doesn't matter how good you feel Apple's
service is. They
are legally required to give free
manufacturer warranty for 2 years from
purchase in the EU.
Sorry, but this is absolutely totally wrong. The
manufacturer doesn't have to give
any warranty at all. The _seller_ is
responsible that products are of sufficient
quality. If you go to an Apple
store and buy a Samsung printer there (if they sell
them), and that Samsung
printer breaks after 18 months, then the manufacturer
(Samsung) doesn't have to
do anything, but the seller (Apple) has to fix it unless
they can prove that
someone broke it. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

As pointed out, Belgium, not Germany.
Other than that, I stand by the rest of the comment on being
a manufacturer, as others have already pointed out, the law
in the EU applies to both sellers *AND* manufacturers.
