I am very sorry to hear that, PJ. Sounds awful! I have
never contracted such
a virus, and didn't know it even
exists. Lately I did see references to it in
the news, but
never stopped to read them. In the end, I thought I had a
mistaken impression, because I thought the norovirus only
causes colds. Now I
understand that it can cause nausea and
vomiting, so I am worried. In a long
life, this is the first
I have heard of such a thing. I hope I don't get
that.
Now I do recall that at least in my family we
distinguished
between "a cold" and "the flu" as two
different things. It was my understanding
that "the flu" has
the symptoms you describe, while "a cold" results in a
running nose, coughing and sneezing. Then I was always
confused when others
used those expressions interchangeably.
Now I always knew that "a cold" is
caused by the norovirus,
but I never stopped to consider what I think might
cause
"the flu". All of a sudden it has become clear to me they
must both be
caused by the same virus. But why would it
manifest different symptoms at
different times? This is a
mystery to me.
Finally, I do recall once I
had what I call "the flu",
decades ago. It was something going around at the
time they
called "the Hong Kong flu", and it literally knocked me out
for
three days. During that time I hovered on the edge of
consciousness and was
delirious with fever. That was the
main symptom I recall. Don't remember much
else.
Wow - sorry this has rambled on for so long. I didn't
think I had
so much to say on the topic! [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
