It wasn't always so. ISTR Gartner being quite bullish about
Apple and MacOS in the late 1980s, early 90s. But being
consultants they will bend with the wind. Maybe they too
sense that Win8 is an ill wind for MS.

I could easily show Gartner being MS oriented.

    oriented: tailor something to specific needs
So I can easily, comfortably defend my position on such a word choice.

But there's no way I could comfortably defend my position if I said "owned" so I don't say "owned" even if I do suspect very close ties between the two. Such as Microsoft paying for "neutral, grass roots" research.
