OP of the above.

I also should have noted that Windows is not a part of a
standards-based process, but then... maybe it should be,
since it's a de-facto standard. Why should MS have the best
of both worlds: a standard where only they get to set the
standard, and get to set the price, when it's essential?

MP3, MP4 etc. video and audio codecs?
