Further Reality Check
Authored by: artp on Sunday, January 13 2013 @ 03:07 PM EST
Perhaps people can understand the issues involved better if it is explained
to them.

These are academic magazines. We all paid for the research that led to the
articles in these magazines. While we do not own the copyright on the
articles, we did pay for the research, so we should have access to the
articles as we wish.

Too much research has been pirated away (intentional use - don't let the
opposition define the terms) behind pay-walls. There has been a huge land
grab by corporations that did not pay for the property and ideas that they
are trying to steal from the public.

Patents and copyright are being used to steal public property. Every article
in those magazines is based on prior research that was also paid for with
public money. This needs to stop. The cost is already to high. We have
gone beyond money and are starting to take lives directly attributable to
this land grab.
