Geographical Observation on the Chromebook and Other Devices
Authored by: TerryC on Sunday, January 06 2013 @ 01:18 PM EST

The best selling laptop on Amazon throughout the holiday season was a $249 Samsung ARM-based Chromebook.

It still is at No 19 on Amazon.com.

However, at Amazon.co.uk,  it doesn't even get a mention; the Top 100 is populated almost exclusively with tablets and accessories for the same.  I bought my Chromebook at a UK High Street retailer (PC World) which was selling it for the same price as Amazon.  Looking around the various displays, you couldn't get near the Apple section, Android stuff was selling pretty well and hardly anyone was looking at laptops of any flavour.

We had no problem looking at the Chromebook, but we did have a problem finding an assistant who had the slightest clue about it.

Windows Next Gen Reboot is an Epic Fail
Authored by: OpenSourceFTW on Sunday, January 06 2013 @ 02:06 PM EST
The problem is that Apple had this control almost from the beginning (remember
the Apple clones). All they have to do is maintain the status quo because
everyone is used to it.

Microsoft never really had total control of their platform, and their grip has
considerably loosened over the years. It's now too late to tighten that grip.
Windows 8 is an attempt to do just that. All that is happening is that people
and companies are slipping out of that grip.

If you want the customer to buy

You have to deliver a product that meets their needs. Microsoft produces a
product that meets Microsoft's needs, not the customers.
