Like slavery and Godwin's law, the problem of software patents is one
whose name cannot be spoken. It is a shadow on the horizon that
causes those who should know better to turn away and pretend
it is not there. USPTO has no incentive, and will twist this to mean
they have no mandate to do anything about it. Oh, they are acting out
a charade, calling for submissions which will be filed away to be
marvelled at by historians of future centuries.

Is it ordained that there is nothing we can do but be afraid?
