Few things missing:
The ACPI spec, specifically the DSDT tables. Google "Microsoft DSDT"
and you will find a lot of links to Linux forums describing how to fix
"problem" systems. I first heard about it from an internal email
thread at Intel (when I was working on mobile devices). A bios engineer
compiled his code with both the Intel and Microsoft tools. Everything worked
with the Intel compiler, but not the MS one. When he disassembled the compiled
code, he discovered a conditional statement that would route around most of the
configuration settings for "Other OS" (i.e. not a genuine MS operating
system).
Another is the current issue with <a

indows-8-secure-boot/">Secure Boot</a> (many more links of course
- google it).
