Still on XP at work
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, December 31 2012 @ 06:56 PM EST
I am a physician at a 14,000 employee academic medical
center that is still happily using XP on all company
desktops and laptops. I'm not part of the IT team, so it is
possible that a migration is planned, but there hasn't even
been a hint of that suggested to the medical staff or the
employees at large.

For corporations, I think Windows 8 is even less likely to
unseat Windows 7 than was the case for XP/Vista. As in, I
will be shocked if more than 5% of corporate windows boxes
are on Win8 even 2-3 years from now.

For home use, Win8 will get shoved down consumers' throats
like Vista was, but the difference now is that so many more
consumers are looking at non-Windows computing devices, like
smartphones and tablets. MS really wants to break into
these markets, but they have always failed in the past, and
there is little indication that their current efforts are
meeting with any greater success.

Remember that MS touted Win Phone 7 as the "iPhone killer",
and the Zune was supposed to be the "iPod killer". Is there
any reason to think that Surface vs. iPad will be any
different?
