It is demonstrative.

If the software can be run for other purposes, then it isn't
patented.

If a patent is granted for a process of curing rubber, in a
certain manner, then that is what is protected.

If I am free to use the same software to help me optimally
cure concrete, then the software is free of the patent.

If I can implement the mathematics in a circuit with op-
amps, and try to use it to cure rubber in the same manner as
the patent, have I not infringed?

And yet in that case I have used no software. Analog
computation is pure circuitry.
