Actually, you are *totally* wrong here. "Free Will", according to
science, is a total illusion. I know it seems pretty incomprehensible, but it is
accepted amongst those that study it, that pretty much ALL our actions are
controlled by the autonomous nervous system (ie happen on automatic) before our
conscious brain gets a chance to intervene.
My personal suspicion is that the automatic system is programmed by the
conscious, so that most of the time the two work in sync, but we still get
plenty of "I shouldn't have done that!" moments ... - precisely
because the automatic system fires first.
(Sticking on topic :-) Why does it pay to be the *second* person to draw a gun?
Because the automatic response is faster than the conscious draw - the second to
draw is normally the first to fire!)
