ReadWriteWeb: Sarcasm Overload - "Yes, Randi Zuckerberg, speak to us about human decency."

I like techdirt's coverage moreso. This shows as much as any
that facebook is making privacy settings impossible to
understand intentionally, if even Randi can't understand it.

ReadWriteWeb: Sarcasm Overload - "Yes, Randi Zuckerberg, speak to us about human decency."

That's Dan Lyons, who is equally unfit
to write the phrase human decency, in
my view, after the way he sucked up to
SCO and attacked unfairly Groklaw. He's
now the editor at ReadWrite, now that
Newsweek shut down the magazine in
print.

The Real Irony: Mark Z's policy of "you agree unless you explicitly disagree" - A msg for Randi
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, December 27 2012 @ 12:37 PM EST

Given how the facebook apps and policies are designed. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Randi finds her picture associated with some add at some point.

Not because anyone explicitly provided her photo - but because of the policies and the software simply making use of what's been provided.

You see Mark: Humans can be civilized and ask for permission. But software can only follow the policies that you yourself are responsible for. How about applying this new lesson and making any new functionality disabled by default unless the user explicitly allows for that use?

Randi: If you are unhappy about the situation, you should speak to your brother. He's done much more then just allow easy sharing - he's allowed policies where software will automatically use unless you explicitly say not to - if you even have a choice.

It appears Mr. Lyons hasn't change much over the years

His authorings still appear to be quite heavy with venom.

I'll pass on reading any more of his stuff for a few more years.

You have two options with Facebook
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, December 27 2012 @ 09:14 PM EST

1) Do not use it. If you are enough of a public figure to have a Wikipedia
page, Facebook will copy it, but otherwise you can be fairly private.

2) Never say anything online that you wouldn't say in front of a judge or the
police.

I use the second option myself. My Facebook profile is totally open.
Anyone, anywhere in the world can look at it.

However we all know that I'm totally crazy ;)
