It wasn't only the mountainous terrain giving snipers a
field day.
Another major reason was the fact that Switzerland has lots
of snow all year round. In order to move around the country,
you are in avalanche country all the time.
In other words, a couple of people with a little explosive
could easily take out an armoured column. The Germans could
probably have conquered Switzerland fairly easily. But it
would also have been costly. The cost wasn't worth the
candle.

The most important factor was that there was absolutely no reason to invade
Switzerland. They were neutral and not at war with Germany, and there was
nothing to gain with an invasion. Besides that the German military command were
not some gun-happy amateurs the were professionals and knew how much war costs.
They made a reasonable assessment. Pure Cost and Benefit.
