This is a piece of advocacy and not any kind of study. Guns are controlled to
some extent almost everywhere except the US. Most of those places are quite
peaceful. You could equally easily construct a list of peaceful democratic
countries with gun control legislation.
The thing which is overlooked here is that this isn't an all or nothing
proposition. Most democratic countries with gun control still have a lot of
people in them who own guns. It is just that you have to have a license and pass
certain background checks before you can get one. Owning a gun is a significant
responsibility. It is not unreasonable to make an effort to keep them out of the
hands of dangerous people.
The problem in the US is that the discussion is often framed in terms of a
fundamental right to own guns and this prevents the discussion from even getting
to the more adult questions of who should be allowed to own a gun, for what
purpose, what kind of gun can they own, how should it be stored, what training
