The article only mentions Outlook, not office as a whole. I can't remember the
last time I needed to import or export data in those types of format from there.

I suspect this isn't the story you think it is. Shame though, I thought for a
moment that I would be able to have a " told you so" moment with my
boss

Keeping it would cost really little for Microsoft
Except all the upgrades for no other reason than to be able to continue to import/export word documents.

Welcome to the upgrade treadmill.

Well, I try to avoid Outlook when possible and even install Thunderbird on work
computers if I can, so this won't affect me much.

A friend of mine is a die hard Outlook user with gmail as a back end. His wife received a "please send money - I can't pay the hotel bill" email from a close friend.

Gmail had a bright red bar at the top of the message - "suspected fraud". Outlook said nothing. They were at Western Union when they figured out that they had been taken.

The family uses gmail now.

How about ODF documents?

Just curious. Does it import ISO/IEC 26300 standard documents from LibreOffice
and the like?
