There's a word to describe that behaviour which the
geeklog filter won't let me use...

YouTube says ...
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, December 23 2012 @ 02:50 AM EST
The viewcount on my video is frozen around 300 views. What's going on?
YouTube employs proprietary technology to prevent the artificial inflation of a video’s viewcount by spam bots, malware and other means. We validate views to ensure the accuracy of the viewcount of all videos beginning with the first view. This validation process becomes publicly visible when the viewcount reaches 300. At this point, the viewcount may slow or temporarily freeze until we have time to verify that all further views are legitimate. Rest assured that the views system is working as intended, and that the viewcount will update as soon as the system has verified the legitimacy of the views.
Other Issues

Below 300 views they don't check. I know because I get two numbers, first the total number of clicks, or viewers who close the page after a few seconds checking it wasn't what they wanted, and under the View Stats function I am shown only the complete fully viewed totals.

Oh, and I just got caught by another YT twitch. I can no longer sign in with my YT nym. I am forced to use the email account name. Hence I may be forced to create another email acct to keep my affairs separate. Then when I get to Manage my Videos I am harangued by a splash screen demanding to know why I am not using said email account name to identify my videos. I'm starting to wish the Mayans had been right...

YouTube is mostly garbage.

Probably 80% of it is commercial ads, crappy vids no one watches, and other
useless junk. That said, some stuff is amazing, but you won't find it by looking
at view counts.

View counts? Going viral? Talk about ego stroking. View counts are obviously
bogus.

I'm sick of the whining. If you don't like Youtube, go somewhere else.
