Tablet as Teacher
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, December 26 2012 @ 12:47 AM EST
I was extrapolating from my experience in what was then called Za´re. The language situation and education penetration were similar to what now prevails in Ethiopia. Those students who excelled in the offical foreign language, French, graduated to high school or college in the big cities, often 1000 kilometres distant. After getting a job in the big city they would sometimes make an annual vacation return with gifts of money. I conversed with older people in the rural areas who regretted these bright students did not return to teach and maintain the new technology in agriculture, transport and communications. But that was thirty years ago. I hear the situation there is now worse. It's difficult to choose the least evil. One result of the choice to concentrate on English must be more language extinction .

The article said the tablets in use were Motorola Xoom on Android.
If (big if) an Amharic keyboard is in there, then I guess it will
be found by any kid smart enough to hack his config to
switch the camera back on.
