If you look at the mass shootings that have occurred, the typical shooter is
someone who feels oppressed, and is alienated from society.
Yes, reducing the number of guns would reduce the number of shootings,
just like reducing the number of automobiles would reduce the number of
car crashes. But it wouldn't affect the underlying issue, and those with
problems would just find another outlet to strike back at society.
Consider the recent American Presidential Election, and the cries of anger
when Obama was re-elected. A certain percentage of the electorate
believes that the remainder of the country ignored their concerns. That they
were willing to ignore the concerns of others themselves isn't apparent to
them. They are angry, and they intend to fight.
This isn't only an American problem, I picked the American election as an
example because everyone would know about it. It is more of a problem in
the United States than in some other countries though. Look up mass
killings, whether by bomb, gun, or other device. The countries that those
killings occur most often in, are the countries which have the least upward
mobility, and the most alienation between social classes.

I think you may be misinterpreting the stats.
It's low on injury for guns because you mostly
end up dead instead if they are fired, not injured, or
they are used just to accomplish something and
then the perp leaves, as in a bank robbery
where normally no one gets shot.
And there is another factor not being considered:
everyone has access to a knife. Guns take some
effort, usually, unless you use your mom's, as
this last one did.
I read yesterday that he was taking a medication
for depression that can, in some people, result in
super aggressiveness, by the way.
You didn't quote Scalia fully. He went on to
say that citizens do not have a right to all
kinds of guns.
And the answer to your last question is: if the
only way to protect yourself is everyone gets a
gun, then we are back to the way it was in the Old
West. Do you seriously, really want to go back
to that? Lots of good guys with guns ended up
dead, you know.
Next time you see a policeman, ask him if having
a gun in the house is statistically more likely
to have you ending up dead instead of protected,
and see what he tells you.

I think they should arm the kids. Seriously! They should
be trained from an
early age to live in a gun-totting
society, along with ABCs. They could be
provided with guns
that fit their little hands, like the well-known "Saturday
Night Special", or even guns custom made for them. They
should wear little
holsters around their tiny waists, and
be trained about their constitutional
right and duty to bear
arms and to pay their dues to the NRA. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

What other lowest common denominators can we detect to
expose, or at least introduce to the discussion?
No stone should be left unturned - we need to look in all
the deep dark corners, to discover what lies there, that we
can not usually see. AND, then we need to openly discuss it
all, everything (to fix, you need to look at the entire
picture).

AND, this guy in the video link below, at risk of lible and
slander, had 3 labs confirm the cause of the start of the
Autism Epidemic (many kids on SSRIs are Autistic). SHOCKING.

This tells me that you are actually LESS likely to be seriously
injured if your attacker has a gun as opposed to some other weapon.
But is being dead is counted as an injury or a fatality?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I'm having trouble verifying this particular quote
supposedly made by Janet Reno.
I'd like to know if she really did say this, and if so, when
and where, and under what context.
The alleged quote is:
"Gun registration is not enough. Waiting periods are only a
step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of
private firearms is the goal." -- Janet Reno
Doing a simple Google search yields so many websites that
contain it, that I can't seem to find the original.
I'll keep looking, but any help verifying its veracity or
debunking thereof would be highly appreciated.
Thanks![ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
