HTC is screwed, less there was some wording in there to allow HTC to stop paying
for it. They are stuck paying for the patent til license deal ends.

See, that's the point. They didn't sell something they didn't own. They sold
a license to Apple's patent portfolio. Not specific patents.

It's up to the parties to work out a license fee based on their perceptions of
the total value of the portfolio. You don't pay a la carte for each patent.

Which was my original point. Opaque patent portfolio licensing gives real
value to holders of bogus patents, which is hard-to-impossible to recoup
because of how portfolio licensing works.
