Turkey hunting? Pet Comment
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, December 19 2012 @ 04:19 PM EST
I just realized that I brought up an inside joke that no one here would get.

We had a neighbor, a good, humble and generous person and a farmer by passion.
During his last few years, he had managed to befriend a turkey (I have no idea
how). It came around all the time, and Jim would say things like, "You'll
be dinner next year!" In the end, I think that Jim just fell in love with
"good ol' boy."

After Jim passed, his children split up the property and sold it off. The next
thing we knew, we had a new neighbor (of the not-so-country persuasion) who
turned out to have gone to college with Jim. The new-comer decided he would
make friends with the neighborhood, and went out to hunt for (probably anything
that moved) so he could "fit in."

Sure enough, he comes by showing off his prize catch and we're just speechless.
He invited quite a few people over for dinner, but no one had the heart to eat
Jim's little friend. To this day, I still think he's a little offended that no
one came, but should you really tell someone that he shot and ate his college
buddies pet? :)
