Your bias is showing.
When Google started Android distribution, it stated
its purpose: to make sure that the phone space was
not monopolized by just Microsoft and Apple, two
proprietary and very much closed off systems.
Naturally, we would be supportive of that, and you
should be too.
They didn't make much if anything for quite a while,
actually, so it was an investment in the most freedom
that was being offered in a smartphone, since they
based their Android on the Linux kernel and then
coded Apache-licensed materials on top. Of course we
would be supportive of the Linux kernel and any
phone that gives you the freedom to be root and to
control your own phone.
Google was almost immediately attacked by both Microsoft
and its running dogs and Apple, with patent aggression
and hypocritical complaints to regulatory bodies, not
to mention FUD campaigns on the theme of how Google
has now become evil.
Of course we noticed, and having been through a
smear campaign ourselves at Groklaw, one that Microsoft
was a participant in, we recognized the smear campaign
about Google's supposed evil for what it was. You
on the other hand have accepted the premise. Sadly
smear campaigns do affect people, even nice and intelligent
people. It's why folks do them.
That is the basis for our support of Google.
Whatever they might do that isn't perfect is a hill
of beans compared to the above, and so there you are.
