I personally don't like Samsung. They make good hardware,
but their design is so-so (and I don't mind the plastic, I
find that high quality plastic has superior characteristics
than aluminium and glass: it flexes, not breaking or
bending, irreversibly, at least for minor impacts). My issue
is that they aren't good with software. Kies is an affront
to good taste, usability, and the things that make Android
great, not being locked to a vendor and not being tethered
to a computer. Touchwiz, the Samsung Android overlay and UX
makes me want to claw my eyes out.
Both of these issues can be solved with alternative
firmwares, such as CyanogenMod, and so I will continue to
choose Samsung while they remember to offer micro SD Card
expansion slots and removable batteries, something that
other Android vendors seem to be phasing out.
If the Chinese start selling decent phones locally (many a
super phone that I would have bought never leaves China,
such as the Xiaomi or the Oppo ones) I will stop buying
Samsung. Huawei and ZTE seem to be preparing some exciting
launches though. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
