I wonder how many screens they broke before they thought of
applying heat first?

It is quite tricky to maintain quality high enough for a nitpicker like Apple,
while bending on a physical mold. At first I thought Yahoo News might have
stumbled rewriting
the story. But Gotta be mobile shows a device that aligns the glass on the
mold
while it slumps under heat. This is backed up by some language from the
patent quoted by
Patently Apple .
To fit the display to a curved screen requires
a flexible display layer, which is extrapolated by inRumor.com to fanciful shapes including screen based speakers.
Some
stories are quoting Wired as an unimpressed source. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Perhaps they should take a trip to the Corning Glass museum in Corning N.Y. to
see what can be done with glass and a bit of heat.
