I don't think the availability of books during any particular year is the point
of the article. I think what the graph shows is what books are available today
that were first published/copyrighted during each year. In other words, books
that first published during the 30's, 40's, etc. are not available today whereas
titles first published during the 20's prior to copyright are abundantly
available today.
Copyright hoarders are not motivated to keep their material in print by their
perception of lack of demand or the future bonanza they desire. However those
few, (that are seen as insufficient reason to print) are then held out as
scofflaws if they wish to avail themselves of copies and even make those works
available through sharing amoungst "the too few". As a result much of
this resource sits and rots in the hands of greed.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
