I've used various cell platforms over the past 13 years,
including all the major vendors. I agree with you about
Android devices not being as open as they should be. That's
why I've gone with the Nexus line for now.
What it really comes down to imho is the carrier models
being outdated. They still want control over the phones, and
they seem unwilling to adapt to technological developments.
Sure, they want faster phones. Loaded with bloatware that
slows them down.
This occurred in the PC world, as well. Which is why I have
to re-install Windows every time I buy a laptop. It's really
not helpful.
Verizon moving to the data model is a move in the right
direction. And T-Mobile ditching default phone subsidies is,
too. But we've still got a long ways to go.
