so do(n't) all the nines.
If infinite is not a number, then why should an infinte number of nines,
preceded by 0. as in 0.999... be called a number ?
I would call it an "unparsable numbest".
Besides: shouldn't this be called half infinite, since aparantly one can add a
0. in front of "the same number of"
nines.

Furhermore a lot of explanation here start out with
1/3 = 0.333... as being exact.
without proof. So that may be an aproximation.
because actualy
1/3 = 0.33 + 1/3 / 100 or
1/3 = 0.333 + 1/3 / 1000 or
1/3 = 0.3333 + 1/3 / 10000 etc. to infinity if you wish

Also, if one cannot stick a one at the far end, then how can you multiply a
similar far end by 3 ?

Maybe people did not start using hyperreals for nothing ?
With proper infinitesimal notion.

BTW: Does continuity really exist in reality ?
