If you are the originator of this thread, I am finally
responding to your
response to my response to the original
post. If you are not, than this is
directed to the aforesaid
entity.
I declined to reply to your reply to
my response in which
I dismissed you as someone who should have posted on
Slashdot where you would be more appreciated. The mere
thought of responding
was just overwhelmingly tiresome. As I
had said, I had seen it all before. I
suspected you of
having an agenda. Perhaps you would like us to consider the
proposition that these big corporations are all the same,
fighting it out in
their own self-interest. They are a
friend of no one but
themselves.
Rather a depressing thought, but as I said, the outcome
is
of interest to me. I want to see Android win, but even
more, I feel that it is
not, in fact, just two companies
duking it out, but rather, Apple attacking and
Samsung
defending.
There are strong 3rd party interests out there that
want
to confuse the public into just seeing this as just another
"Battle among
Titans", like you would have us see it. I
believe Microsoft (or Apple) is
behind this revisionist
view, but it is a distortion of reality.
I
suppose you see us here as being a part of the
Collective, sharing the Group
Mind, cheering on the team
adopted by Hive Queen.
I assure you nothing
could be further from the truth. We
Groklaw regulars don't necessarily have
much in common at
all. We don't share the same ideology at all. In fact,
discussion of religion or politics is forbidden here, for
good reason. We
would be all at each other's throats in an
instant! Such is the diversity of
views held here, from Left
to Right, from Open Source to
Proprietary.
We do, however, have a few things in common, out of the
infinite variety things we may not share. For one thing, I
bet most everyone
that frequents Groklaw would have a fairly
high level of literacy. Since
Groklaw discussions usually
revolve around documents written in obscure
legalese, I
don't think someone who struggles with basic literacy would
stick
around for long.
Beyond literacy, what else? What makes Groklaw
different
then, say, Slashdot?
Why of course, it is those very
documents mentioned
above! Perhaps you have noticed, almost every single
Groklaw
discussion begins with some documents from some on-going
court case.
These documents become the centre, the focus of
the discussion. Note this then,
it is not a shared ideology!
It is a shared desired to seek the truth and
meaning of
these documents. The conversation never strays from that! In
fact,
we provide a thread for those who want to talk about
something "Off
topic".
So then imagine people from all walks of life, though
with an
interest in law and technology, all focused on
discussing actual court
processes as they unfold. Step by
step as those processes evolve over time,
every nuance of
their significance and meaning is discussed.
Then
something almost magical happens. It seems that most
of us, most of the time,
draw the same conclusions! Wow -
that is really incredible! ...but maybe not -
since we are
all, after all, witnessing together the same events.
Then
someone like you comes by, with the proposition that
we are all wrong, perhaps
we are all just sheep, though you
never said that. You have this enthusiasm for
your agenda,
and this wonderful (misguided?) energy that is born of ---
what?
You are on a mission, and you want to convince us that
we are all
wrong...
Well, I am telling you, you are not going to give me
pause.
You do not move me. I arrived at my point of view of
my own free will, tiny
step by tiny step, reading the
documents along with all my colleagues here,
seeking out the
Truth. Where were you then, anyhow? You are too late. I
arrived at my conclusions some time ago. I heard all your
arguments way back
then, considered them, and rejected them.
I am not going through that all over
again. I believe in
myself. I don't have to answer to you or anybody.
