I had assumed that senior-level employees of a $50B company would know right from wrong

Sadly, often people sell the truth for cash. It's funny though how it often
comes back to bite them. Some call it karma, I think it's just how things work.

P.S. 100th comment!

Knowing Right from Wrong does not always lead to doing Right at any level.

In my experience with people, trustwothyness seems to be
inversely proportional to ones wealth. There is also a
drop in trustworthyness at the low end too.

I think one of the factors is that for many people money
is a measure of how important they are. The more important
people are the more they think that no one else will bother
them. Since no one else will bother them, they can do
pretty much what they please. A common phrase with
important people when they are interrupted is "Do ( Don't)
you know who I am?" The best answer, of course, is "No."
