It sells LOADS of advertising here. Oddly enough the Internet is available in a
few countries other than the USofA.
The laws relating to multinational companies and tax were written at a time when
moving money and things of value across borders was hard to do, now that it is
trivial companies can pretend their costs lie elsewhere. So Google sells ads in
the UK but agrees to pay Google elsewhere a very high sum to put the ads on the
net, thereby appearing to make a loss in the UK at (say I don't remember the
figures) 25% corporation tax and an apparent profit in another EU country where
the tax rate is 15%.
Starbucks do likewise they buy their coffee in Switzerland at a high price, the
coffee never actually goes to Switzerland of course ...
All this is perfectly legal, but it probably shouldn't be ...
There is no income tax in the Jersey, I wonder if I can tell the taxman that's
where I get paid.
