Maybe that is the reason, but the general public know nothing about the Linux

That became obvious from the picture on site, while I was
looking to see if Pengpod had some chinese meaning.
I doubt it, the chinese word for penguin means
a goose standing tall to look around.

"P" Pod. Any similarity a catchy name like "pea pods" is
purely coincidental.
It has to be catchy, and it has to be memorable. BeBox got that marketing
point. GIMP did not. :-)
