Well, as I understood the history, when the Angles arrived in Britain (long
before the Normans) they took over the lowlands then.
Edinburgh was, I understand, FOUNDED as the Angle capital, the Kingdom

There was Pict/Irish interchange. One reason Gaelic became the language of
Scotland, in addition to the Dalriada expansion, was that the children of the
Scots elite particularly the princes were sent to Ireland for safety where they
took the language on board. On their return to Scotland it then gradually
displaced the Pictish language. Today, Irish speakers will normally fully
