I want to point out in addition to the hardware design
optimizations for saving
power, that it is still very
important that there is not a bunch of apps
generating
network traffic and just basically wasting cycles
and keeping the
device from going to any kind of power-saving
state.
I want my device to be
rootable so I can remove the junk
apps that I do not want running. I also want
the app
to have an 'exit'. I do not want it in the background
tying up ram for
no reason. I do not want to have to bring
up another app to 'force close' an
app I am done with.
If I want to use the app, I want to be able to easily
kill
the app from running, when *I* want it to stop.
I do *NOT* want apps
spontaneously being restarted by zygote.
I also want to have swap. I do not
want the Low Memory Killer. The Low Memory Killer should warn me, but let
me
decide what apps to close. I do not want it to guess wrongly for what I am
doing at that time.
Let me manage the device.
I want the Power off
button to have controllable
actions for sleep mode, where I can make the
device
do what I want.
For example, if a phone, and I do a short power
off
to make it sleep, but I still want it to wake up if
a call comes in, I do
not want apps in the background
doing anything! Period. I do not even want any
internet
traffic to occur.
Only 3G or 4G can wake it up at that
point.
But maybe, I want cell traffic and Bluetooth to wake it up.
Let
me control what can or is happening.
I do not want background and/or
unintended events to
be wasting my battery or generating cell traffic that
helps
a telco make money.
