Not that I know Scotland that well, but is Lothian SOUTH of the Firth of Forth?
As I understood my Scottish history, it was divided basically into four
Kingdoms, being the Picts in the Highlands, the Scots in the Islands, Dalriada
down the west coast south of the Clyde, and the Angles down the east coast south
of the Forth.
Then, just as the Pictish kingdom imploded and was taken over by the Scots
heading west, the Angle kingdom similarly imploded and was taken over by the
Scots heading south and the English (except this is about 800AD) heading north.
I believe the Angle king was killed in a battle for expansion and his heirs
couldn't defend his conquests...
As for my source, while I didn't get it from there, the Scotland.org page
referenced by jjs backs my version up. When I was in Scotland I got a couple of
books on Scottish history ...
Cheers,
