Are you insinuating that Angles had captured Strathclyde, Borders and Lothian
from the Picts? What's your source for that claim?
The Picts were defeated, as a nation, by a two-fisted assault by Vikings on
one-side and the Scots on the other, although the Angles were pressing up from
the south, they do not appear to have played any major role in the fall of
Pictland.
It was the Scots who overwhelmed the Picts and the Picts were driven from some
land by the Vikings, and indeed there was some loss of land North of Hadrian's
Wall (which would place between Hadrian's Wall and Antonine's Wall as you
mention) lost to the Angles. I've not seen your exact claims before though. But
my geography on the region isn't the best. So perhaps, I'm misreading your
post.
Although it should be noted the Picts, Scots, Irish and Britons are all related
Celtic peoples. Sometimes one sees reference to Caledonians, but this is a
misnomer as the Caledonii were a Pictish tribe, that grew to encompass other
tribes. I have descent from the Picts, if legend and genealogy is to be
believed. Something which I find unreliable (the supposed link, not genealogy).
I hope your source isn't Bede. A likely non-neutral source. Considering he was a
Northumbrian to begin with.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
