"Scots" originally emigrated -- quite

The Picts were there first. The Scots migrated from what is now Ireland (and
explains why Scots Gaelic is similar to Irish Gaelic). They then took over the
land, creating the Kingdom of Dalriada, among others - which eventually took
over the other kingdoms in what is now Scotland (as the Picts and Scoti fought
the Scandinavians for control of the area) and created Scotland. Later the
Anglo-Saxons (fleeing the Normans who conquered England), invaded and took over
the lowlands, and the two countries fought for quite a while, until the 1603
Union of the Crowns, and later the 1707 Act of Union, which united the
Parliaments. Which is now devolving back to Scotland
