Oracle vs. Google, and rangeCheck: an experiment
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, December 03 2012 @ 11:34 AM EST
ok, so people still learning to program can make mistakes writing it.

Did you get any smart-alec comments along the lines of "I can't answer that
question because then Oracle will sue me" Those are the people to watch
out for.

Thanks for the data points.

I tried a similar experiment when the trial was going on. But your results are more interesting because of the number of students involved and their skill level. I was just testing the lower bounds.

One thing to be careful of, though. The answer is always highly dependent on the question being asked. So the form of the test question could affect the results of the work produced by the students - as you noted.

Again, thanks for doing this. It takes it out of the speculation range. [Pardon my pun.]

So, can you tell us whether some of the students
came up with exactly the same code that Oracle
was complaining about?

You are being MICROattacked, from various angles, in a SOFT manner.
