But I still wish there was a decent alternative to the catastrophe that FF is
becoming under the new direction they have chosen. I'm stuck way back on FF5
because I don't like the product decisions they have made. If I can find a
decent FF alternative that is independent and standards compliant (or at least
mostly so) I will switch. May be time to see what Ice Weasel is doing.

Curious to know what you mean by this, as without
clarification it reads like FUD.
Do you mean sending debug/crash information, opt-in usage
statistics, automatic update checks, or something more
sinister and unspecified?

I use so many Google services that there is not much info
that adding browsing to the mix is going to add.
And if you are banking and such there is incognito.
Its all a balance and what you are comfortable with.

What about Chromium? It is FOSS and used as the basis for Chrome but doesn't
have the anti-features of Chrome: no bundled flash, no privacy-invading stuff,
and no auto-update (that is for the user to control - not the software).
I use the version packaged by Debian and it seems pretty good; I use Iceweasel
too, but I typically prefer to use Chromium.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I do trust Mozilla a lot.
And I will still be using Firefox 5% of the time.
But Firefox does have search integration with Google.
And Google's advertising business does pay Mozilla the
majority of its money.

Firefox rose to prominence from development in the pre-Chrome period when FF was
heavily funded by Google. It would only be a slight exaggeration to say that FF
was owned by Google as an interim measure to undercut Internet Explorer until
