What's worse is that 1366x768 screens are universally terrible even by
laptop
standards, as measured by Anandtech. It's so bad that the moment
you see that
resolution quoted - at *any* size of panel - you should run
screaming, even if
you don't need the extra pixels. Other resolutions, even if
they aren't IPS
panels, tend to be significantly better.
And I fully agree, vertical height
is much more important to developers than
width - it lets you fit more lines of
code on the screen. Many coding
standards even limit the line length to values
suitable for an old terminal or
line printer, making a wide screen only useful
for fitting multiple windows
side by side.
On the plus side, I *did* manage
to find Dell's Linux selection quite easily - by
searching the Swedish version
of their site (which happens to be
geographically closest to me). Have a look.
