The linked Register article by their agent provocateur Orlowski thoroughly raked the coals

Orlowski posts flame-bait for page hits. This is true for any subject he writes on, and he'll write about anything controversial (knowledge not being a prerequisite for his purposes). A lot of regular Register readers now refuse to touch any of his stories because they know he is just baiting them (this is probably why he has a lot fewer stories these days).

A lot of on-line news sites pay their authors a share of the advertising from their individual article. The big money isn't in careful research and thought provoking insight. The money is in calling people "freetard neckbeards" and having them furiously clicking on comment links so they can write rebuttals.
