Astrophysical theory as subject matter for patents, thanks for
the monetizing idea;)

But yes, the parallels you draw between software patents and real patents
should be understandable, even by those whose eyes glaze over at the
software is math argument. I see two obstacles to overcome: first the
acceptance that software contains no magic property that allows it
to escape the common sense applied to patents for physical devices,
substances and methods; and the second follows immediately, that
software patent claims cannot be allowed the sweeping generality
that they have become accustomed to.

There's magic in software alright. Interconnected electronic circuits
appear to cause money to move through markets. or machines
to mine Mars. What certain legal minds need to understand is that
this magic is not sufficient to overcome the requirements for
patentable subject matter. It will require a gentle choice of
expert witness to explain this to them.
