Windows 8 sales below projections
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, November 19 2012 @ 01:05 AM EST
Yeah.. a netbook with more than 2 or 4 GB of RAM would be quite a surprise to me. I bought one around two years ago, it has only 1 GB of RAM. I bought a laptop around the same time that has 8 GB of RAM.

On the other hand... my development machine at work now has a whopping 32GB of RAM and 6 really fast hyperthreaded cores. Its so fast that I can run a lot of bloated software simultaneously without even noticing! Web browser with 20 tabs open, take up a few hundred MB.. who cares?

For the first time ever, I have a Windows machine that can fit my whole working set of files in the disk cache during a build! And it also has a screaming fast SSD in it. On this machine, a full rebuild of our multi-million-line codebase takes about 10 minutes, which is half the time it took on our old machines.
