The United States is the only country I know of that has elections for the
Judiciary and For Law Enforcement.
Consider the pressure that puts on an elected District Attorney to be seen
to be performing. Any time that there's pressure related to job performance,
you end up with cheating. Remember the Atlanta grading scandal?
Extrapolate it to the Criminal Courts, and imagine what damage could be
done.
The same applies to Law Enforcement. The pressure to get convictions is
one of the reasons there have been so many innocents released from
Death Row.
Pressures still exist in a system that uses appointments, but since there is
less pressure, truth is more likely to win out. Ask Guy Paul Morin.

Well, when people finance other people to run for a job, who do you expect them
to work for?
The people who will keep them in good money.
Bribary is built into the system these days.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
