Neither Petraeus, nor Broadwell are bound by the Uniform Code of Military
Justice (UCMJ), otherwise courts martial would be in order. He's retired, she's
inactive reserve. The blowback is politcal, otherwise we'd have heard nothing
about it. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I think the main concern was not with the military side (certainly that could
have been a technical violation of the service code) but with the Intelligence
side (a secret affair could leave the person liable to blackmail, and so a MAJOR
intelligence vulnerability.)
As for the reporting, that's not so much political as social--"look, we
know something about the sex lives of the rich and famous!" It could have
been an actor or corporate bigwig or religious leader, or even a politician: it
just happened to be a military bigshot this time.

Interesting. Would you have said the same thing about
Clinton?
(sorry, not meaning to start a religious^H^H^H^Hpolitical
flame war here, but it just seems that the ones that are quick
to jump on Petraeus' indiscretions are the very same ones that
leaped to Clinton's defense. Seems a bit - hypocritical... -
to me.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
